Folios 249-250: Joseph Oliver, HMS Ariel, Little Nore. At the ship's first fitting out at Chatham, carronades were supplied with the non-recoil principles. The Gunner has found problems with water collecting in the chock and these have become unfit for service and in bad weather the powder gets wet. The Captain has applied to the Storekeeper at Yarmouth for new breechings, but there were none in the stores. He is hoping to obtain guns at Little Nore, fitted on the recoil principal
