Folios 223-224: Edward William Owen, HMS Clyde, Walmer Road. Asks on behalf of Patrick [Convery?] for discharge to a ship destined for a warm climate. The latter suffers from severe rheumatism except in a warm climate. The Captain encloses a letter from another Seaman on board who apparently has knowledge of Bueno Aires and may be able to offer a more useful service elsewhere. This person has been on board for 6 months, has behaved well but is very deaf.
Folios 225-226: enclosed with folios 223-224. Undated letter by James Jones to Commodore Owen. He recounts that he was impressed into the Clyde and was waiting for confirmation that he had been regularly discharged by the Admiralty from the Ganges on account of his deafness, but after 6 months has little hope of this. He asks to be discharged into the first vessel sailing to the River Plate. He has spent five and a half years traveling with the Patagonians and may be more useful at tat station.
