Folios 161-162: Edward William Owen, HMS Clyde, off Boulogne. Concerning his request to the appointment of Mr. William Tapper to the Dauntless, he respects that another was appointed and the request made only for the benefit of the Squadron, while waiting for the arrival of the designated Officer. He hopes that correspondence concerning Lieutenant Smithies for the trial will arrive in time, despite the lack of reliability of the Sub-Lieutenant. It may be necessary to place an Officer in charge of the Bruiser.
