Folios 145-146: Edward William Owen, HMS Clyde, Downs. Responds to the request for information concerning a letter from Mr. Bullman of Canterbury. It appears that the accusation of serving provisions is malicious and untrue. The letter appears to refer to Richard Booth, who was sent by London Magistrates to the Zealand. This man is described as suspicious, slothful, indolent and negligent. Some of the crew had prepared a complaint against Sub-Lieutenant Richard Lock Conolly, but this was not taken to the Commander. It appears that the Sub-Lieutenant improperly inflicted punishment without the Commander's knowledge. The Lieutenant was absent, he had previously made frequent complaints of the backwardness of the Boatswain's Mate and Quarter Master. In the Captain's opinion, the best method of restoring discipline om the vessel would be to transfer the Sub-Lieutenant to another Brig and separate [Patrickxxx Gibbon?] Boatswain's Mate, Edward Bele and Thomas Bennett, Quarter Masters.
