Folios 320-321: Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, HMS Immortalité, the Downs. Reminds the Admiralty that during his last cruise he detained a Danish vessel, the Speculation, bound from Norway to Le Havre, and sent her in for the opinion of the King's Advocate on her status. He has now reported that although her cargo of deals and iron is consigned to a French Merchant, the owners may yet be able to claim damages for her detention. Points out that he was in company with HMS Leda, HMS Perseus, HMS Terror, HMS Discovery, HMS Archer, HMS Bloodhound and HMS [Fleche ?] when the Succession was detained, so his share of any prize money would be negligible. Suggests the Admiralty purchase her cargo and asks them to protect him from any court action. As he is about to sail, asks for any reply to be sent to his agent, Mr Maude, of Great George Street, Westminster.
