Folios 318-319: Terence O'Neil, Poole Rendezvous. Replying to Admiralty query of 27 April, says the protections for the 7 impressed men from the Mary had not been in the ship at the time, as in his letter of 24 April. Since then one able seaman has entered and received the bounty. However, he asks, if their Lordships do decide to liberate the men but their ship has already sailed, what is to be done? Folios 320-321: enclosed with folios 318-319. Letter dated 23 April 1803 by R. N. Sleat, Poole, owner of the Mary, master Joseph Baggs, says that while the ship was clearing for the Newfoundland fishing, the master had come ashore for half an hour on business, having with him his pocket book containing the men's protections - during his absence a gang arrived with a lieutenant, under orders of Captain O'Neil, and impressed the 6 fishermen and a landman aboard. The captain declined to release them without approval from their Lordships. He points out the loss he will sustain if unable to proceed to the fishing grounds.
