Description

Folios 297-298: Terence O'Neill, Poole. Acknowledging receipt of Admiralty letter regarding Mr Shurben, and saying he has advised Mr Garland that if he can show any proof or pledge that the young man is under 18 he will immediately discharge him.

Folios 299-301: enclosure with folios 297-298. Letter dated 5 April 1803 by George Garland, Poole, sending an indenture , with affidavit affixed, and saying that due to 'some trifling informality' the young man had been impressed, and Captain O'Neill is unwilling to liberate him - though he is only 15 years old - without the approval of their Lordships. Expresses the gratitude of the town for their having directed the impress to be conducted with 'less severity' than at the beginning.

Folio 300 is the sworn statement from John Aldridge and T. Joyce that the 'erasures' in the indenture agreement were made before it was signed and executed.
