Folios 292-293: Terence O'Neill, Poole. Advising that he had sent the enclosed order, no. 1, with the respective orders for the officers concerned, to Captain Neville, of HMS brig Portmahone, asking for his opinion, but as he had doubts about its legitimacy he had sent document no. 2, to solicit the approval of their Lordships. He further sought to reassure Captain Neville that the order to him had been under private cover, so not official. However he has since learnt that a midshipman mistakenly sent them the original, unaccompanied by the cover letter, which O'Neill feels has put his judgement in an unfavourable light. He apologises for troubling them.
Folios 294-295: enclosed with folios 292-293. Order no 1, states that he has attempted to set up a Rendezvous at Swanage but has been prevented by the merchants 'by any and every means' and therefore for the good of the Service he gives Captain Neville the enclosed order: To immediately proceed with his vessel to Swanage, taking under his orders Lieutenant Chapman, commander of HM 14th Troop of Light Dragoons, with 30 men, and to use every exertion to procure men for the Service. Then to return to Poole or proceed to Portsmouth as appropriate. On the reverse of folio 294: a letter to Chapman, an 'order and request' to him to assist Neville in his efforts, and two similar letters to Lieutenants Spearing Osmer and Osmond Button. On folio 295 order no 2 for Captain Neville, a fuller account concerning the efforts of the merchants at Swanage to prevent a Rendezvous and the involvement of the soldiers of the 14th Light Dragoons. Saying that if he approves of the proposed actions he need not answer but may go ahead.
Folio 296: enclosed with folios 294-295. First a note from Mr Spurrier, Mayor of Poole, to Captain O'Neill, saying that the bearer, Henry Coleman, is a man fit for HM Service, and that if O'Neill agrees the man may be paid his bounty. Second a reply from O'Neill saying he does approve and congratulating the mayor on an excellent start, which will benefit both the merchants and the government.
