Folios 257-258: Robert Dudley Oliver, HMS Mermaid, Lisbon. Advises he is still detained with HMS Druid, HMS Dover and 10 transports that are to take 3 Regiments to Minorca and stores for the Fleet. He will sail if he hears the Fleet is off Cadiz or he thinks it safe to proceed. Advises he should have written by Mr. Jackson, Master, HMS Ville de Paris, but he took dispatches from Lord St. Vincent and he had nothing further to add relative to meeting the French fleet going to Carthagena. Advises intelligence from a messenger sent by Mr. Hunter that they sailed from Cadiz but were not accompanied by the Spanish. Advises that an English Privateer which arrived last night had previously seen 6 sails of large ships off Cape St. Vincent.
