Folios 227-228: James O'Bryen, HMS Childers, Guernsey Roads. Advises that following orders from Captain Newman, HMS Mermaid, to join him at Ferrol, after obtaining sails from one of the gun boats and rope from different ships at Hamoaze, he set sail on 7 February but on reaching Ushant the wind changed and a gale blew up. Advises he had to cut sails and throw all but one of his guns overboard to prevent foundering. The wind abated enabling him to reach Guernsey Roads and he will sail for Plymouth when the wind allows.
