Folios 345-346: John Orde, HMS Prince George, Spithead . Reports he has given First Lieutenant Smith leave until he is superceded and will nominate a replacement as soon as he can find an officer who is qualified. Notes he is very short of commissioned and petty officers as he tried to get the ship ready for sea. Postscript. Explains that he did not pass his last letter through the Port Admiral because he is still under Admiralty orders, and at the same time both Earl Howe and Sir Peter Parker's flags are flying so he is not sure which one he should report to.
