Folios 65-66: George Oakes, 11 Upper Brook Street, Grosvenor Square. Reports his arrival in London. He sailed from Philadelphia on 26 May in the Swift packet, carrying despatches from British Minister George Hammond to Lord Grenville. The packet was hired by John Hamilton, the British Consul at Norfolk, Virginia, to bring him and other King's officers who had been prisoners back to England. They reached Cork on 30 June and Vice Admiral Robert Brice Kingsmill took charge of the Swift while Captain Oakes made his way to London. The other officers with him were Captain Robert Manning and Army Lieutenant Mackenzie [Hugh Mackenzie ?] of the 71st Regiment. Army Captain George Charles Braithwaite of the 72nd Regiment was too ill to travel, but he also gave passage to two merchant officers who had also been prisoners, Mr Dale of the East India Company ship Winterton and Mr Booth, Chief Mate of the George of Liverpool.
