Folios 512-513: Joseph Nourse, HMS Severn, Chatham. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] letter from Joseph Dicks, Serjeant of Royal Marines of HMS Severn, stating his being reduced to Corporal on his disembarkation from HMS Severn. He states he rated him Sergeant and informed Vice Admiral Sir Alexander Inglis Cochrane, and on his arrival in England he informed Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth. He requests due to his conduct he be appointed Sergeant. He also finds that William Barham who was also promoted by him is in similar circumstances. He states his case is equally deserving. PS Both men have been doing duty for 14 months and acted as such in conjunction with the Army in the attacks of Washington and Baltimore.
