Folios 488-489: Francis Newcombe, HMS Chesapeake, Spithead. Reports the arrival of HMS Chesapeake at this anchorage from the Cape of Good Hope and Saint Helena and sends a copy of his Orders with other documents:- Log [not present] Chart, State & Condition [not present], Defects, List of Convoy [not present], Men of War left at the Cape & Vessels spoken with since, Quarterly Return of Punishments [not present] and Officers [not present]. States not having fallen in with HMS ston off the Cape or at Saint Helena, he remained at that island two days in addition to the term expressed in the orders and acquiesced in the registration of the Governor by taking his charge such ships as were bound to England, in consequence of intelligence having been received of a [?] in Europe; the convoying of those ships as far as Portsmouth (having received good information they may proceed to the Downs with safety) will he hope meet with their approbation.

Folios 491-492: enclosure with folios 488-489. Letter dated 1 June 1815 by Vice Admiral Sir Charles Tyler, HMS Medway, Simons Bay [Cape of Good Hope]., to Francis Newcombe, HMS Chesapeake, Simons Bay, Cape of Good Hope. States the Captain of the East India Company's Ship Lady Castlereagh having reported that he discovered a Ship apparently dismantled, this morning in the South Waest direction from the Cape Point, and there being every reason to suppose that this ship is the Veniston Transport one of HMS Africains Convoy having on board Invalids. Orders to sail for England with a stopover at Saint Helena etc. etc..
