Description

Folios 261-262: John Toup Nicholas [Nicolas], HMS Pilot, Portsmouth Harbour. Reply to your letter just received respecting Mr William Mitcheson the Acting Carpenter of HMS Pilot. He states that the original Acting Warrant from Vice Admiral Sir Edward Pellew Bart., was sent to the Admiralty from Minorca in November 1813 together with a letter where he requested this be confirmed.

Folios 263-264: enclosure with folios 261-262. Letter dated 18 November 1813 by John Toup Nicholas [Nicolas], HMS Pilot, Minorca, to the Admiralty. States Vice Admiral Sir Edward Pellew Bart., having appointed Mr William Mitcheson as Acting Carpenter of HMS Pilot, he requests this be confirmed.

Folios 264A-264B: enclosure with folios [263-264] 261-262. Letter dated 17 November 1813 by Vice Admiral Sir Edward Pellew Bart., HMS Caledonia, Mahon, to William Metchison, Carpenter's Mate HMS Pilot. States Mr Christopher Scotten Carpenter of HMS Pilot being removed to HMS Resistance. You are directed to act as Carpenter of HMS Pilot.

Folio 264C: enclosure with folios 261-262. Certificate that Mr William Mitcheson served as Carpenter's Mate on HMS Pilot from 26 February 1811 (when he joined as a volunteer from being a Carpenter of a large Merchant Brig) to 16 November 1813 when he received a Warrant to Act as Carpenter of HMS Pilot in consequence of his Gallantry and good behaviour.
