Description

Folios 236-237: John Toup Nicholas [Nicolas], HMS Pilot, Spithead. Reports his arrival of HMS Pilot at this anchorage with a Convoy of Transports and Merchantmen from Cork. All to their respective Ports as per the enclosed [not present] Convoy List. Hec has sent a copy of the Signals and Instructions, he has sent a letter to the Secretary of Lloyds on the subject of ships that parted.

Folio 238: enclosure with folios 236-237. A list of Vessels that parted Company from the Convoy between "Oporto and Cork" [List of five vessels with details of where and when parted].

Folios 239-240: enclosure with folios 236-237. Letter dated 15 October 1814 by John Toup Nicholas [Nicolas], HMS Pilot, Spithead. (Copy) of the letter he sent to the Chairman of the Committee Lloyds Coffee House London. [His Report on the Convoy] And the ships that parted. PS One of his Convoy from Oporto, The Stranger of Plymouth, had been a French Chasse Maree and from her construction added to her having very bad sails (the whole of which he was obliged to send ten or twelve men to repair twice during the passage) she detained the Convoy Considerably.
