Description

Folios 201-202: Thomas New, 21 Edgware Road, London. States that during his Command of HMS Raisonable at Sheerness in 1810, 1811 & 1812, he incurred a considerable expense in Stationary in the course of his duties of the Port, independently of those of the Ship and on his being superseded in consequence of Promotion to the Post Rank. He was allowed his bill of £13-2s-0d directing it to be charged in the quarterly contingent account of Sir Thomas Williams, the Commander in Chief. Mr Thomas Temple, the then acting Secretary directed me to give him a receipt for the sum, stating that such was necessary to be sent to the Navy board in order to its being allowed. It appears that the £13-2s-0d was charged and allowed in the Admirals quarterly account due Juen 1812, but Mr Temple retained & applied it to his private use & sometime after quitted his situation. He has stated his case to the Navy Board requesting that as Mr Temple was on the list of Pursers, they would direct me to be paid and impress the amount against his half pay. The Navy Board replied that they needed the Admiralty to direct them to do so. He therefore requests the necessary order. He encloses a letter from Mr Temple in proof that the money was in his hands.

Folios 203-204: enclosure with folios 201-202. Letter dated 17 October 1812 by Thomas Temple, Admiralty Office, Sheerness. He requests his address so that he can send the Stationary Money to him. Reply to him at 4 Tavistock Row, Covent Garden, London.
