Description

Folios 161-162: William John Napier, HMS Erne, Haluoctsluis [Hellevoetsluis]. Reports that in compliance with their directions he has this day received a letter from Mr Rothschild of Amsterdam, stating that 112 boxes of Spice have been shipped from thence to Haluoct as part of the cargo to be received on board HMS Erne. The accompanying letter to him from Mr Clancert came enclosed at the same time from Mr Rothschild, it states the immediate necessity of carrying the money to Bourdeaux without further reference to the Admiralty; he shall therefore, without waiting for the amount directed in their Lordships order, proceed to Plymouth with the sum required by Commissary General & should he find no contrary order he will proceed to Bourdeaux.

Folios 163-164: enclosure with folios 161-162. Letter dated 18 May 1814 by Mr Clancert, Hague to William John Napier, HMS Erne. States having received a letter from J G Herices Esq.[?] Commissary in Chief of the British Army from Paris Dated 12 May 1814, representing the necessity of shipping £130,000 from Holland to Bourdeaux for the use of the British Troops in the South of France & calling upon him to move the Commander in Chief of HM Fleet upon this station to provide a vessel for this purpose without the loss of time.
