Folios 152-153 John Toup Nicholas [Nicolas], HMS Pilot, Sicily. States William Metchison the Carpenter's Mate of HMS Pilot having left her at Messenia in June 1812, He caused the R to be placed against his name , when three weeks had elapsed, but being afterwards informed by those who were on the spot at the time, that it arose solely from drunkenness and that he did his best to rejoin the Brig afterwards. He requested after his return in September [1812] that an order to remove the R against him. He again request an order for the R to be removed for his gallant behaviour on many occasions in our Boats to gey him a Warrant which he fully merits.
