Folios 512-513: William Nowell, HMS Monmouth. Having been refused an increase in pay he has made enquiries with other officers and found that during the late and present wars it was practice for senior captains in stationary ships to be given extra pay, especially where the ship had been reduced from her previous rate. He no longer has the opportunity to receive prize money.
