Folios 260-261: James Nash, Regulating Officer, Leith Rendezvous. Reply to letter dated 8 January 1807 enclosing three certificates in favour of James Blake and desiring him to state his case. He states that as James Blake never passed through his hands nor did the substitute mentioned in Mr Glen's letter. He has little information to offer but some two or three months ago friends of James Blake wished to make him believe that he had formerly received a protection from him, in consequence of his having furnished a Seaman for himself to serve on HMS Clyde, but as neither he or the substitute appeared on his books of course their story was incorrect, it is possible that a body of fishermen might have procured a man for Captain John Larmour to serve on HMS Clyde in lieu of Blake. He has procured some written documents from Admiral James Vashon which he has enclosed which may through some light on the matter.
