Folios 158-159: Thomas New, Regulating Officer, Swansea. Reply to letter dated 11 December 1816 and state the case of William Chambers impressed at this Port on 20 November 1806. He was Impressed by Lieutenant William Heard on the night of 20 November 1806 who found him doing duty as a Seaman - there were no documents produced to prove him a Carpenter, neither is it customary for vessels in the Coal Trade out of this Port to carry one. His detention has been occasioned by the carelessness of the party's in leaving the necessary Papers at Shields evident by the length of time between his being impressed and the application for his discharge.
Folios 160-161: enclosure with folios 158-159. Letter dated 25 November 1806 by Joseph Laing, No 3 George Yard, Lombard Street, to the Admiralty. Covering letter for the enclosed [not present] the Articles of his Ship called the Cumberland where of William Popplewell is Master proving William Chambers to be healthy and bona fide Carpenter thereof. Request he be discharged.
