Folios 4-5: John Nairne, Portsmouth. Reports his arrival here in HMS Leander and encloses a copy of the orders he received from Vice Admiral George Cranfield Berkley. He will remain here and wait further commands.
Folios 6-7: enclosure with folios 4-5. Letter dated 16 August 1806 by George Cranfield Berkley, Halifax, to Captain John Nairne, HMS Halifax. The Admiralty having directed him to send to England such Officers as Captain Whitby late of HMS Leander may represent as necessary witnesses to attend a Court Martial or other investigation of his conduct in a late occasion off New York. You are ordered to proceed in HMS Leander to Spithead returning here to resume command of HMS Halifax unless you receive other directions.
