Folios 306-307: enclosure with folios 304-305: Letter dated 8 June 1805 by George Forbes, Substitute Sherrif, Banff. He has been looking for deserters but as soon as they approach an alarm is raised by the villagers and they all flee. He has managed to catch James Hutt from HMS {Orestes] and James Fondlay from HMS Dart both were substitutes for fishermen who had received high bounties from Mr Gourley and are now in prison. He asks for allowances and a reward. As so few attempts are successful, the allowances should be high otherwise the men will not be as zealous. He suggests withdrawing protection and seizing the boats of fishermen who shelter deserters. Unless these measures are adopted he shall never succeed in catching all the deserters.
