Description

Folios 212-213: James Nash, Regulating Officer, Leith. Explains his exchanges with Horatio Cannan attorney about Captain Temple and HMS St Albans and how John Nicholson was exchanged for a landsman and how he assumed this had the Navy's approval especially as the substitute had been sent to HMS Zealand.

Folios 214-215: enclosure with folios 212-213. Notice of petition from Horatius Cannan.

Folio 215A: enclosure with folios 214-215. Certificate by Captain Nash as to substitutes being entered for John Nicolson.

Folios 216-217: enclosure with folios 214-215. Petition dated 11 March 1805 of John Nicholson, Tailor, Rose Street, Edinburgh. He is the father of John Nicholson. His son disappeared in London and later joined HMS St Albans under Captain Temple. Captain Nash, regulating Officer at Leith, agreed to accept a substitute for him so he procured John Brown who was accepted by Nash but later sent to another ship so Captain Temple refused to discharge Nicholson. He asks for his release as a substitute was obtained.

Folio 218: enclosure with folios 214-215. John Temple to James Nash, HMS St Albans. October 15 1804. He agrees to receiving a substitute for John Nicholson.
