Description

Folios 345-346: John Nicholas, HMS Eurydice, Spithead. He encloses a report on the taking of the Prussian ship, Charlotte, by HMS Eurydice as he has heard that Mr. Greetham is to claim her as a Droit of Admiralty. He says that the Charlotte is the legitimate prize of HMS Eurydice.

Folio 347: enclosed with folios 345-346. Deposition dated 23 March 1804 of Jaco Witt, the Charlotte, Freshwater Bay, sworn in front of George Cuthbert, JP, Mayor. He claims that the Charlotte was inspected in Freshwater Bay and approved to sail. He says that she was stopped at sea by the Duke of York cutter on the orders of John Nicholas, HMS Eurydice, and forced to return to her anchorage. He says that John Nicholas is responsible for the costs incurred.

Folio 348: enclosed with folios 345-346. Deposition dated 23 March 1804 of John Nicholas, HMS Eurydice, sworn in front of George Cuthbert, JP, Mayor. He says that he inspected the Charlotte in Freshwater Bay as he believed she was in danger. He was told that she was bound for Nantes with a cargo of masts. Once she sailed she was chased and brought back to Freshwater Bay.

Folio 349: enclosed with folios 345-346. Deposition of Andrew Green, Lieutenant, HMS Eurydice. Sworn in front of George Cuthbert, JP, Mayor.
