Folios 315-316: James Newman Newman, HMS Veteran, the Downs. He reports that Alexander Whitney and John Jenkins who deserted HMS Veteran were recognised aboard the Monarch, East Indiaman. They were returned by Captain Campbell, the Monarch, only after he was threatened that his whole crew would be impressed if he did not. He asks that the two deserters face a court martial.
