Folios 184-185: Thomas New, Regulating Officer, Swansea. Acknowledges receipt of the letter of 17 December enclosing the report on 41 men raised at Swansea and sent to Plymouth and asking him to explain sending some pressed men and some mis-rated. Four men were rejected on examination. John Crutch (Scrofula). This man was taken by the Sea Fencibles from a Privateer and had returned from a long voyage. The examining Surgeon deemed his eruption to be bad scurvy. Richard Williams (fits). They were not obvious while he was at Swansea. James Jones (stiff elbow joint). He was impressed by the late Commander of the Cleveland without reference to the Rendezvous. Thomas Jones (fits). No fits observed at Swansea. The subject of ratings is often a matter of opinion. Men will often deny having been at sea, when the Magustrates who know them are aware they are seafaring men.
