Folio 151: Thomas New, Regulating Officer, Swansea. Acknoledges the letter of 27 March with blank Protections for vessels carrying coal for the Cornish mines. He has completed them as per the enlcosed list. He has had applications from Owners and Agents of the local colleries for upwards of 40 vessels in this trade. He has found there are 16 different companies, each employing 4-6 vessela. He has given each company a Protection for one vessel and has enclosed the other applications and asks whether others should be granted.
Folios 152-153: enclosure with folio 151. Letter dated 29 March 1803 from Charles Nevill, Swansea, to Captain New, Regulating Officer, Swansea. Sends the number of vessels belonging to the Birmingham Mining and Copper Company wholly employed in trading from Swansea to Devon and Cornwall suppling the mines there. Lists 5 vessels and their Masters: the Hammond (Francis Hancorne), the Gnoll Castle (David Sanders), the Birmingham (David Nicholls), the Penrose (David Gill) and the Good Intent (David Rogers). They also have 2 vessels carrying copper to Birmingham: the Providence (William Long) and the Unity (William Jones).
Folio 154: enclosure with folio 151. Letter dated 30 March 1803 from R Roberts, Agent, Swansea, to Captain New, Regulating Officer, Swansea. Sends details of the vessels belonging to Messrs Harfods and Bristol Brass and Copper Company employed in trade with Cornwall and supplying the mines there. Lists 4 vessels and their Masters: the Friends (William Maine), the Countess of Mexborough (Thomas Hernaman), the Harford (Robert Walters) and the Amelia (Thomas Ninnis). They also have the Expedition (William Hawkins) carrying copper from Swansea to Bristol.
