Folios 307-308: James Nash, Regulating Captain, Leith Rendezvous. Acknowledges the request for a list of all the boats employed in herring fishing in the Firth of Forth, reports he has not impressed any fishermen and that all of the men included in the application by Captain William Shield of the Sea Fencibles were impressed by officers of HM ships, acting upon the Admiralty order. Before the herring season started, the local merchants agreed to provide one man from each boat in order to be given protections for the rest of their crews. He has sent Lieutenant John Gourly to make up the list of fishing boats and men employed. He has also received a letter from Captain Sir William Henry Douglas of the Sea Fencibles at Berwick reporting that on the Admiralty's authority he has issued protections to 145 men working in the herring fishery.
