Folios 282-283: James Nash, Regulating Captain, Leith Rendezvous. Reports that because of bad weather it was not until today that he was able to examine Samuel Gandell, and finds that he matches the description given by his brother. He has given orders for Gandell's discharge. Also reports the death of Peter Geyller, Midshipman of the gang he commands, after being struck by a man from the Custom House called Herdman. Herdman has been arrested and will go on trial for his life.
Folios 284-285: enclosed with folios 282-283. Letter dated 4 November 1803 from Thomas Gandell, Martin's Lane, Cannon Street, London, to the Admiralty. Encloses a letter from his brother Samuel Gandell, a resident of Jamaica who was impressed as he arrived from the West Indies, and seeks his discharge.
Folios 286-287: enclosed with folios 284-285. Letter dated 30 October 1803 from Samuel Gandell, HMS Gorgon, Leith Roads, to his brother Thomas Gandell, 21 St Martin's Lane, Cannon Street, London. Reports he was pressed on board HMS Chiffone from the Eginton at sea, after that vessel picked him up when the Fair American was wrecked. Seeks his brother's help in securing his discharge.
