Description

Folios 272-273: James Nash, Regulating Captain, Leith Rendezvous. Encloses a statement from Lieutenant William Peake of HMS Escort on the case of Thomas Hogg, as well as his discharge by order of Captain George McKinley of HMS Roebuck.

Folios 274-275: enclosed with folios 272-273. Letter dated 22 October 1803 from Thomas Storey, Master of the William & John, Leith, to the Admiralty. Seeks the discharge of his Carpenter [Thomas Hogg], who was pressed by Lieutenant William Peake of HMS Escort on 12 October, leaving the vessel making water with insufficient crew and no Carpenter to effect repairs.

Folios 276-277: enclosed with folios 272-273. Report by Lieutenant William Peake, HMS Escort, of the circumstances under which the Carpenter Thomas Hogg was impressed from the William & John at sea. When Hogg was brought aboard HMS Escort, Lieutenant Peake would have returned him to his vessel except that a gale was blowing. When they arrived in Leith Roads the Master of the William & John applied for Hogg's release and Captain George McKinley of HMS Roebuck gave orders for his discharge.
