Folios 242-243: James Nash, Regulating Captain, Leith Rendezvous. Reports that some time ago he was given permission to employ Lieutenant John Gourly in the Revenue vessel Osnaburgh, and he is currently at Cromarty in her collecting quota men from the fishing fleet. The Duchess of Montrose Excise schooner has also gone to Shetland and the Orkneys to collect volunteers. In view of the enclosed letter, asks the Admiralty to continue the use of these vessels without interference from the Board of Excise.
Folios 244-245: enclosed with folios 242-243. Letter dated 9 September 1803 from James Duncan, Agent for Excise Yachts, the Excise Office, Edinburgh, to Regulating Captain James Nash, Leith. Explains that the loan of Revenue vessels to the service of the Navy is at the discretion of the Board of Excise, and that they may be withdrawn if they are needed for Excise service.
