Folios 161-162: James Nash, Regulating Captain, Leith Rendezvous. Acknowledges the letter forwarding one from John Newall about the men impressed from the Queen Charlotte of Berwick. Refers the Admiralty to his letter of 13 May in which he reported that these men were impressed because of their direction that only seamen specifically exempted by Act of Parliament were safe from the press. Reports he told the agents of the Berwick Company he could not discharge the men without a direct order from the Admiralty. Suggests Mr Newall is wrong to say that although the Queen Charlotte was carrying 60 guns for the Board of Ordnance, that she could not proceed to London without these men.
Folios 163-164: enclosed with folios 161-162. Petition dated 20 June 1803 from John Newall to the Admiralty. Reports that although the Admiralty issued a protection for the Queen Charlotte of Berwick in June, when she arrived in Leith Roads five members of her crew were impressed. Points out that the vessel is carrying guns for the Board of Ordnance, but will not be able to sail to London without the impressed men. Asks for their discharge.
