Folios 119-120: James Nash, Regulating Captain, Leith Rendezvous. Acknowledges the direction that only men protected under Act of Parliament are safe from the impress, and reports that a general press was carried out on Tuesday with the assistance of Commander James Campbell of HMS Amethyst. It did not yield many men because a man named George Houston has been enrolling men as volunteers for the artillery as a way of exempting them from the press. Encloses a letter from Mr Houston and also [not present] the certificate for James Cunningham, Mate of the Antelope.
Folios 121-122: enclosed with folios 119-120. Letter dated Wednesday morning from George Houston, Leith, to Regulating Captain James Nash. States that 11 of the men enrolled in the Leith Carpenter Volunteer Corps of Artillery have been impressed, lists their names and asks that they be discharged. After his converasion with the Lord Provost of Edinburgh he expects to be given a commission to command a corps of Shipwrights as well. Amended by Captain Nash to cross out three of the names, stating that the Surgeon has found they are unfit for duty, and to add one additional name.
Folio 123: Admiralty slip with directions for dealing with Captain Nash's letter.
