Folios 98-99: James Newman Newman, HMS Loire, Spithead. Reporting his arrival and that he sailed to Cruize for a week off the [Barlings?] [Berlengas Islands?] prior to collecting the trade bound for England at Lisbon which was coming from the British Factory and who had requesting for a delay via His Majesty's Consol General. During this Cruize he met HMS Inflexible and HMS Dido bound for Portsmouth with a Convoy of only 5 Ships. Due to the size of the trade which was due to accompany him to England, he requested [Benjamin William] Page to be under his Command and proceed to the River Tagus. On their return, he reports that those Ships bound for Ireland, Bristol, Liverpool etc parted company at Cape Clear and that he directed [Benjamin William] Page with HMS Inflexible, who has reported a leak requiring her to go into Dock, to proceed to the Downs with the Eastward trade. He mentions a list of the Convoy which came home under his protection [not enclosed]. Chatham is also mentioned.
