Folios 268-269: James Newman, HMS Mermaid, Plymouth. He asks to appoint Mr George Fogo, presently gunner on HMS Epervier, to be gunner on HMS Mermaid in lieu of Mr Vesy (or Veasy or Visy) the present gunner, whose health is so bad that he is now in hospital. He also recommends that William Marcus, the gunner's mate, be given a warrant as a gunner. He knows him well as he has been on three of the ships commanded by Captain Newman.
