Folios 249-250: James Newman, HMS Mermaid. He writes that he has received a refusal to a request he made to Admiral Sir Richard King. He is distressed as his request was to allow him to attend to a matter that was dearer to him than life itself, He is perplexed by the refusal and surmises that something derogatory has been said about him to prompt this refusal and other refusals over the past three years. If that is the case and he has done something amiss, then he asks for a Court Martial or Court of Enquiry to be convened to enquire into the matter so as to clear his name.
