Description

Folios 181-182: Henry Montressor, HMS Bulwark, Plymouth, Encloses a letter from Rear Admiral Griffith, Commander-in-Chief, Halifax to Captain Farmery Predam Epworth of HMS Bulwark or the Senior Officer at Quebec. Directs them to dispose of 1518 bags of bread on board HMS Queen Transport ship. He found, upon consulting the Commissary General, that there is a surplus of bread to dispose of and that the state of the market in Quebec is so low that it will not sell for more than 12 or 15 shillings a quintal. The contract price for supplying a Navy ship is upwards of 30 shillings. Advises that it would be more beneficial for the Crown to send the bread to England. Requests the Admiralty's approval for this.

Folios 183-184: enclosure with folios 181-182. Letter dated 7 July 1815 from Rear Admiral Griffith, Akbar, Halifax. States HMS Queen transport ship has on board 1518 bags of bread which is intended for the use of the Ships of War going to England. Orders that if they cannot take that quantity, it is to be offered to the Commissary General at Quebec for the use of the troops. Failing this, it is to be sold for the benefit of the Crown at public auction and the Purchase Bill and the Bill of Sale to go to the Commissioners of Victualling.
