Description

Folios 213-214: MacDowell [James M'Dowal], Regulating Officer, Greenock. Reply to letter dated 14 June 1815 he states on "What grounds" the fishermen:- Alexander Linton & James Wilson were impressed. He states they were impressed in the Clyde. he considered them as subject to the Laws, and as their protections were not signed for any limited time, He has some doubts how far they were legal. He did not include them in his Weekly Return but merely detained them until he had an answer from Captain [Andrew] Smith at Leith.

Folios 215-216: enclosure with folios 213-214. Letter dated 9 June 1815 by Duncan Service and Thomas [?] Campbell for the Herring Fishery Association of Greenock in the absence of D Fergusen Esq to the Admiralty. Your letter to Mr Fergusen with inclosure have been received, but the proposal of the Admiralty for the protection of the fisher is quite impactable and offers no effective relief. We enclose a copy of a Petition.

Folios 217-218: enclosure with folios 213-214. Petition [two sides large size paper] dated 8 June 1815. Signed by:- Robert Morrison, David Manis, James Wheuyie[?] & Robert McFarlane. Request protections for all Fishermen.
