Folios 102-103: Frederick Lewis Maitland, HMS Bellerophon, Cawsand Bay. States Charles Scott a Seaman in HMS Bellerophon having applied to be paid for HMS Leda and for the period he was a Prisoner in France from 1814 to 1814; is informed he is suspected to have served in arms against this country and therefore cannot be paid till he brings proof to the contrary. He states there are now two men on HMS Bellerophon named Stephen Brunwin and James Ridley, who knew in Salenciennes Prison from the year 1805 to 1809, when he attempted to make his escape and are ready to make oath that they afterwards saw his name in a handbill as being condemned to slavery for having made the said attempt, Charles Scott further states that he was condemned to 5 years slavery, 4 of which he served in L'Orient Dock Yard in chains as a convict and was released at the peace. He therefore requests on Charles Scott's behalf that directions be given for him paid such wages as are due to him for HMS Leda and the period he was a Prisoner in France.

Folio 105: enclosure with folios 102-103. Letter dated 24 January 1815 by Charles Scott, late Seaman HMS Leda. Having received a letter from the Admiralty dated 21 October 1814 in answer to his petition for payment of wages as a released French Prisoner, which stated it was under consideration. He request to know what is happening as he is quite destitute.
