Description

Folios 55-56: William Howe Mulcaster, No 1 Cleveland Court, St James's. Finding at the Navy Office that HMS Princess Charlotte is only rated a Sixth rate, and as he has been drawing pay for her as a Fifth rate - approved by Sir James Lucas Yeo - (Her force whilst he commanded her being:- 42 Total Guns (24 Long Cannon 24 Pounders - Main Deck, 2 Long Cannon 68 Pounders - Quarter Deck & 16 Long Cannon 32 Pounders - Quarter Deck. HMS Princess Charlotte 42 Guns 275 Men). He trusts they will give directions to the Navy Board to grant him the Pay & Compensation for a Fifth rate from the date of his appointment to HMS Princess Charlotte 30 October 1813. Further he reports on his arrival on Lake Ontario, 20 May 1813 - to 30 October 1813 he Commanded a Post ship HMS Royal George with (18 - 32 lb Long, 2 - 18 lb Long & 1 - 24 lb Long) 150 Men as this ship was after established as such under the name HMS Niagara he hope they will give directions to the Navy Board that he may receive pay & compensation for her as a Post ship. It may be necessary for him to state that during the time he was wounded the Books of the Squadron were kept in one - under the Head of "Naval Establishments" - Their Lordships order for a contrary system not having been received.
