Folios 488-489: Kenneth Mckenzie, HMS Venus, the Sleve. Acknowledges letter 25 May about William West for a Lieutenant who was found to be quite illiterate. West, a survivor of the melancholy loss of HMS St. George and HMS Defence had his arm in a sling and given dispensations. Says it never entered his or Captains Bell and Austin that he could not write.
