Description

Folios 307-308: John M'Kerlie, HMS Calliope, off New Wark [Neuwerk]. Reply to letter dated 26 May 1813 brought here by HMS Princess of Wales Cutter, Lieutenant Southcote [John Southcott]. In compliance he dispatched HMS Urgent, HMS Blazer and HMS Wrangler to cruise from three to five leagues North of the Island of Schelling, copy of the orders he gave to Captain George Bentham he encloses. Likewise he received Mr Barrow's letter dated 25 May 1813 and have given directions to Lieutenant [Josiah] Dornford of HMS Thresher to proceed to Wingo Sound with the William and Ann and the Ladies Adventure transports and to give convoy also to the trade who may wish to avail themselves of the opportunity.

Folios 309-310: enclosure with folios 307-308. Letter dated 3 June 1813 by John M'Kerlie, HMS Calliope, off New Wark, to George Bentham, HMS Urgent. Orders to proceed to Heligoland with HMS Blazer and order HMS Wrangler - Lieutenant Crawford who is lying there to join him and then to proceed to the Island of Schelling and cruise. Mentions Admiral William Young.
