Folios 294-295: Henry Gage Morris, Cove, Ireland. Reply to letter dated 17 March 1814 relating to Mr James Popplewell, late Purser of HMS Jalouse. In reply he states he is not in possession of the ground upon which Mr Popplewell has founded his claim, It is not in his power to give an opinion. He will not pretend to say how Mr Popplewell has been able to pass his accounts for HMS Jalouse between 23 July 1809 and 15 November 1810 but he has every reason to believe that some unfair means have been resorted to. His annual accounts up to 30 June 1810 were not signed by him and no paper whatever for the purpose of enabling Mr Popplewell to pass his accounts were signed by him between 31 July 1810 and 15 November 1810. If there is any certificate purporting to be signed by him the signature is a forgery.
