Description

Folios 267-268: Robert Mitford, HMS Espoir, Malta. Covering letter for the enclosed letter from Lieutenant James Guttery, inclosing his Acting Order for HMS Espoir and request he be confirmed to the Vacancy of Lieutenant Oliver.

Folios 269-270: enclosure with folios 267-268. Letter dated 4 April 1813 by James Guttery, HMS Espoir, Malta, to Robert Mitford, HMS Espoir, Malta. Covering letter for the enclosed order Captain John Clavell, HMS Orlando and senior officer in the Archipelago.

Folios 271-272: enclosure with folios 267-268. Letter dated 27 January 1813 by John Clavell, HMS Orlando, Smyrna Bay, to [Lieutenant] Mr James Guttery, HMS Espoir. States Lieutenant Oliver of HMS Espoir, having been ordered to attend a trial in England. You are required and directed to repair on board HMS Espoir as Acting Lieutenant.
