Description

Folios 223-224: Donald M'Leod [MacLeod], Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated 20 May 1813, he states:- (1) William Ashworth was sent by Lieutenant Thomas Eborall from Manchester on 1 March 1813 as a Boy Volunteer aged 14. He was drafted into HMS Bittern the next day for a passage to Plymouth. (2) William Hughes was impressed by Lieutenant William Achbold on 9 May 1813 as a Seafaring Landsman aged 19 born in Bed Wharfe. He said he belonged to the Ainslee Packet. He was taken on suspicion of being a deserter, which he was not been able to ascertain.

Folios 225-226: enclosure with folios 223-224. Samuel Topp c/o Edward Eardleys, . No 2 Garden Street, Charlton Row, Manchester, to the Admiralty. On behalf of the Widow Mary Reynolds requesting the discharge of her Son William Ashworth.

Folios 227-228: enclosure with folios 223-224. Letter dated 16 March 1813 by Samuel Topp, c/o Mary Renalds Temperley's Buildings, Cundishesfields, Ancoats Lane, Manchester. To William Ashworth, HMS Bittern, Plymouth. By request of your Mother he writes to acquaint you that she received your letter on Sunday last. It was her intention of coming to Liverpool to see you on Monday but she was advised not to. She will be writing to the Admiralty to request your discharge.

Folios 229-230: enclosure with folios 223-224. Letter dated 19 May 1813 by Ann Hughes, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Petition of Ann Hughes for the discharge of her Son William Hughes.

Folio 231: enclosure with folios 223-224. Letter dated 19 May 1813 by Thomas Vaisey, No 8 William Street, Liverpool, to the Admiralty. Covering letter for the enclosed petition of Ann Hughes, [Folios 229-230].
