Description

Folios 184-185: Donald M'Leod [MacLeod], Regulating Officer, Liverpool. Reply to letter dated

17 May 1813 he states:- (1) John Ross was impressed by Lieutenant Salmon on 12 May 1813 as a Seafaring Landsman aged 18 born in Stornoway. The enclosed indenture and affidavit were produced to claim him, but the lad declared he had made no affidavit in his life except one to swear to some property taken from the ship. [(2)] Nicholas Christopher was impressed by Lieutenant walker on 13 May 1813 as a Seafaring Landsman aged 19 born in Dungarvon. The enclosed Indenture and affidavit were produced to claim him, but he also positively declared he had never made an oath in his life. The frequent impositions practiced by producing Indentures to cover Lads who are not the same though Indentures are meant to cover, and then the affidavit is produced (as in the above instances) and the parties positively deny having taken or subscribed to the same; it occasions strong suspicion and prompted him to send them on board HMS Princess until their Lordships investigate the business and determine thereon.

Folios 186-187: enclosure with folios 184-185. Petition of Colin McKenzie of Liverpool owner of the Schooner Margaret for the discharge of his apprentice John Ross. Dated 14 May b1813.

Folios 188-189: enclosure with folios 184-185. Petition of John Hally of Dungavan owner of the Sloop John & Mary of Dungavan for the discharge of his apprentice Nicholas Christopher. Dated 15 May 1813.
