Description

Folios 97-98: Donald McLeod, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. States the cases of two impressed men. William Burton was sent to Liverpool by Lieutenant Thomas Eborall in Manchester as a boy volunteer. He is aboard HMS Princess. Benjamin Davenport entered with Lieutenant William Archbold on 28 November 1812, also as a boy volunteer, and was born in Bolton. He has been sent on HMS Bittern to Plymouth.

Folios 99-100: enclosed with folios 97-98. Letter dated 13 January 1813 from William Burton, residing near a new Bailey Bridge, Manchester, to the Admiralty. Encloses [not present] an indenture showing that his 15-year old son William Burton is also his apprentice. Lieutenant Brown of the Impress Service has suggested he write to the Admiralty seeking his discharge after his son left his employ and volunteered for the Navy. Believes he is aboard HMS Princess at Liverpool.

Folios 101-102: enclosed with folios 97-98. Petition dated 12 January 1813 from Thomas Davenport, Ship Gates, Bolton le Moors, Lancashire, to the Admiralty. Asks if he can be discharged upon payment of any charges he may have incurred for slops, as has been done for the son of one of his neighbours, Mr Goodfellow. 12 January 1813. Certificate signed by T Brocklebank, Minister, and Church Wardens Thomas Crompton and Thomas Howell, that the facts in the petition are true.
