Description

Folios 251-252: Donald M'Leod [MacLeod], Regulating Officer, Liverpool. William Smith entered with Lieutenant Archbold on 10 August [1812] as a By Volunteer aged 14, born in Ashton. He denied being an apprentice. George Askew entered with Lieutenant Archbold on 5 September [1812] as a Landman Volunteer aged 23, born in Lancaster.

Folios 253-254: enclosure with folios 251-252. Letter dated 26 October 1812 from J F Cowthorne to Lord Viscout Melville. Applies for the discharge of George Askew who ran from his firends and entered on board the tender at Liverpool. He is in the loccal militia . He has now been sent round to Plymouth on board HMS Prince Frederick,

Folios 255-256: enclosure with folios 251-252. Letter dated 28 October 1812 from Jos L[..], acting as clerk to Mr Earle, Liverpool, to J W Croker, Admiralty, London. Sends the affidavits and indenture [not present] for William Smith, apprentice, now on board HMS Princess. The affidavits have been sworn before Mr Earle, Justice of the Peace.

Folio 257: enclosure with folios 255-256. Affidavit dated 21 October 1812 sworn by Nathan Marsden of Liverpool, Bricklayer, taken before Thomas Earle, JP. His apprentice William Smith has absconded and is now on board HMS Princess. His indenture is valid and binding.

Folio 258: enclosure with folios 255-256. Affidavit dated 21 October 1812 sworn by Richard Radcliffe of Liverpool, Gentleman, taken before Thomas Earle, JP. He was present on 21 May [1812] or within a day or two of that date and saw Nathan Marsden and William Smith sign and execute the indentures annexed [not present].
